Calhoun's Memorization

Calhoun, Part 4, MemorizationHiding God's Word in our hearts will provide many benefits and blessings.
Renew your mind by cleansing and transforming the Limbic System in our brains-->memorize and meditate on a brief passage of Scripture for the next 41 days. Record your experience after one week of memorization.
Recall your memorized passage in times of prayer, frustration, relaxation, and worship
I am a firm believer in Bible memorization. As a child, I memorized individual verses and didn't know the context of the words, verses that I was memorizing, then as I studies chapters and context it is nice to see where the verse was and what came before it and after it and the context in which it was said. Also as a child I memorized in the King James Version, then when we recite together, my mind tends to still go back to the king James. Here is a funny story: After having children of my own and wanting them to also hid God's word in their hearts, I started them on Bible Quiz teams where you memorize scripture and compete like Jepordy with questions, recitings etc. My children challenged me to do adult quizing, and I found that most of my memory skills would convert back to the King James Version and not the NIV and I would lose points because I didn't recite how the NIV had it. I did quiet quiz bowl but what I like most about the whole system is that children and youth were learning not just one verse , but whole chapters and whole books. PTL. Now in my old age, I know I need a lot more repetition before I can move information and materials from short term memroy to long term memory. What has become very helpful for me is learning choruses, and hymns and other songs that are very scriptural and based either on the psalms or some other part of scripture. And it is in the mode, that the Holy Spirit refreshs me with bringing back to mind, words of chorus and songs. Our study of the Psalms also now is challenging me to bring one verse to memory adn maybe in the future a whole Psalm. (Not 119- ha ha)
Psalm 64: 11 Let the rightous rejoice in the LORD and take refuge in him. Let all the upright in heart praise him, I add Praise the LORD!. I'll try to see if I can have this memorized in 41 days.

Good idea, journal your thoughts, attitudes, and insights as the 41 days roll by. Scripture, especially in Greek and Hebrew helps to make the message of the Word fresh and unfamiliar. Romans 12:1-2 explains the wholistic process of transformation form the inside out-->! I am looking forward to your report on your 41 day journey.
